The end of 2014 has been full of good news regarding the gastronomic world. Three restaurants in the Balearic Islands have entered the Michelin awards universe two of which are located in Mallorca. A quick mind refresher: the Michelin Star awards are an obligated reference for locals, travelers and expats who enjoy the gastronomic world. The awarding system by Michelin Guides is based on anonymous visits to restaurants and the qualification of their food quality, decoration , location and service. Obviously, each inspector is required to have a strong knowledge in the fields of gastronomy, catering, and dining ensuring reliable reports that are sent to Michelin´s Guide headquarters in Paris. The end of this year has witnessed two new star awards in Mallorca: Andreu Genestra, whose restaurant Predi Son Jaumell is located in Capdepera, and Simply Fosh, located in downtown Palma. In addition to these new stars, Patron Lunares restaurant, also located in Palma, has been awarded a BIB GOURMAND 2015 price (meaning good food at a moderate price), also by the Michelin Guide. A reformed traditional canteen, Patrón Lunares offers a creative menu composed of superb fresh ingredients and fine local wines. The décor is all about design fishermen´s hangout- in fact, the place was formerly the headquarters of the Montepio del Arrabal society whose main aim was to provide healthcare to fishermen and other tradesmen. The canteen is named after a legendary local fisherman of the time who is remembered for being a great captain and social promoter. Worth of mentioning too are the rest of Mallorcan restaurants that were already part of the Michelin Guide and will remain in it for another year, namely: Zaranda, located in the Son Claret Hotel in Capdellà, El Jardín restaurant in Port d’Alcúdia, Es Moli d’en Bou , in Sa Coma, Es Raco d’en Teix in Deià and Es Fum, located in the luxurious Mardavall Hotel. And since Christmas is just round the corner, isn´t this the perfect time to update your gourmand agenda´s and treat yourself to an excellent meals or eating experience?
